چکیده

Abstract Introduction Firefighters’ (FFs) cardiorespiratory fitness is considered an important capacity for workability. To successfully complete safety standards and rescue protocols, FFs are required to accomplish minimum values of relative VO 2max . Physical programs must take into consideration physiological demands, being essential not only professional tasks but also as a guarantee their personal safety. This research aimed investigate the influence specific functional training (FT) with without protective equipment (PPE) self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) on FFs’ fitness. Material methods Sixty were randomly allocated in three groups (EG1 PPE+SCBA; EG2 regular control group) enrolled 24-week (two sessions/week) FT intervention program. assessed anthropometric 12-minute Cooper test, pre post-intervention. Results Both demonstrated significant improvements from baseline post EG1 (39.8 ± 6.5ml.kg ?1 .min 41.2 5.6ml.kg , p < 0.001, +3.5%; 41.5 8.3ml.kg 42.5 7.5ml.kg 0.05, +2.4%). Conclusions The proposed intervention, considering provided all fire departments, even running tasks, seems be adequate developing Regular PPE+SCAB encouraged improve VO2max levels related firefighting tasks.

Changes of oxidative/antioxidative parameters and DNA damage in firefighters wearing personal protective equipment during treadmill walking training

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of personal protective equipment on the oxidant/antioxidant parameters and DNA damage in firefighters during training and recovery. [Subjects and Methods] Twelve male nonsmoking volunteer firefighters (35.1 ± 7.2 years) underwent two maximal treadmill training (9 METs, 6 km/h), within 2 weeks, one in regular clothes and one in...

Cardiorespiratory Fitness Is Associated with Gait Changes among Firefighters after a Live Burn Training Evolution

BACKGROUND Recommendations have been proposed for minimum aerobic fitness among firefighters but it is unclear if those criteria relate to performance on the fireground. Less fit individuals fatigue more quickly than fit individuals when working at comparable intensity and may have gait changes, increasing risk of falls. We evaluated the effect of fatigue during a live burn evolution on gait pa...

Cardiorespiratory fitness selection standard and occupational outcomes in trainee firefighters.

BACKGROUND UK fire services have differing practices relating to the use of a cardiorespiratory fitness standard as a selection criterion for recruits. AIMS To establish whether a reduction in, or elimination of, a defined cardiorespiratory standard for firefighter recruitment impacted on a number of occupational and health-related outcomes. METHODS Data were collected on firefighter recrui...

Cardiorespiratory fitness and the metabolic syndrome in firefighters.

BACKGROUND The leading cause of mortality in on-duty firefighters is sudden cardiac death. While the reason for this remains unclear, low cardiorespiratory fitness and the metabolic syndrome have been associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease-related events. AIMS To document the levels of cardiorespiratory fitness and the metabolic syndrome, as well as to determine if there is ...

Comfort of personal protective equipment.

The degree of comfort of personal protective equipment (PPE) was investigated in an automobile encapsulating plant. Up to 96.2% of employees used one or a combination of PPE. Only 8% of the workers felt their respirators were comfortable, 30% tolerated their respirators, and 62% rated them as uncomfortable. The percentage of employees who rated their PPE (other than a respirator) as comfortable...
